After serving as an Intern to Iowa Senator Tom Harkin in Washington, DC and interning with the Office of Ethics for the USDA, Christina knew she would be a life-long advocate for the under represented. She understands the importance of listening to those she serves and firmly believes Iowa deserves a representative who understands that protecting our future is imperative.
Christina advised, "I discovered early on that one of my passions was to help others, so I've spent my life working with many different different audiences helping to build policy development through research, planning, and through my work with tribal, local, state, and federal political directives. I promise to fight to decrease Iowa's "brain drain" by advocating for prosperous economic opportunities, teamwork, an entrepreneurial environment, and an affordable education system."
Christina is a mother of three and a grandmother. She and her partner, Micheal Keahna, are organic farmers who also make maple syrup. As a member of the Sac and Fox Tribe of the Mississippi in Iowa (The Meskwaki Nation), Christina sees her upbringing as a huge asset in her ability to lead. She advised, "My dad served in the same role I later held as the Executive Director for our Tribe. Growing up, I was in awe of his role. I saw first hand how people could work together for the betterment of the whole. He instilled in me the belief that there are no limits to what people can accomplish when they work together."
Christina has a dual Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration and Human Resource Management. She has over fifteen years' experience in tribal government, has served multiple times as a delegate to the Democratic National Convention, has served on numerous community boards including the Tama County Economic Commission and IDP State Central Committee, and most recently traveled to Macedonia as part of the American Council of Young Leaders Fellowship.
Christina expressed, "I have spent my life advocating for others and working to advance progressive values. Today, I bring experience and a new vision for the 72nd district. As an Iowa state representative, I promise to stand up and fight for equality. I would be honored to be the new voice to take action for our community in 2020 and beyond.
