“While I’m disappointed I came up short in my bid for Iowa House District 72 in 2020, I am honored to have been the first Native American woman to win a primary in Iowa and proud to have been endorsed by President Obama, many of Iowa’s worker’s unions, grassroots partners, and climate solution supporters. I’m proud of the campaign we ran and honored to have represented in this way.
I’m blessed to have met so many wonderful people in my district and would like to offer my sincere thanks to my family, friends, community members, and the countless volunteers who walked along beside me on this journey. There are so many people who supported my candidacy and I appreciate each and every one.
From every single person who donated money and volunteered time, I thank you from the bottom of my heart. Special love and appreciation go out to each of my family members, especially my partner Michael, who stood by me during the long days of dropping lit and never-ending zoom meetings... I want to thank you all for your love and support. To my key campaign staffers, especially Shannon Mitchell, Tim Nelson, and Keely Purscell, thank you for helping share my vision with the community. You are truly 'rockstars'.
I’d like to also thank the Meskwaki Tribe and each community member in my district who supported my campaign and helped along with way. Although the outcome is not as I had planned, I am proud of and thankful for the journey. I’ve spent my life advocating for progressive values and will continue to be a strong advocate for the important issues in my community. The fight for justice continues on.”
~ Christina Blackcloud
You need a representative that will support your ideas and fight for the needs in our community. Christina understands the importance of listening to those she serves and is committed to ensuring Iowans are fairly represented.
"I am running to be your state representative in House District 72 because I want to be a strong voice for rural communities in Marshall, Tama, and Black Hawk Counties. I look forward to using my experience and education to advance our district. I have a plan to coordinate efforts to advocate and strengthen our community and I can’t wait to get started."
We all deserve an equal voice in our government. We need a new generation of leaders who aren't bought and paid for by corporations and special interests. Christina Blackcloud will fight for every single person who lives in this district. She knows what is possible when we bring people together to solve problems and promises to put partisanship aside. She believes we should not ask if it is a Democratic or Republican solution. We should ask if it is the right solution.
Blackcloud believes every human being is equal in worth, rights, and dignity. She believes every American deserves high-quality health care and every child deserves equitable access to the education necessary to achieve their full potential. She will promote solutions that invest in our teachers and schools and will fight to help keep health care dollars in our district to support preventative care and improve access to high-quality medical, mental health, and addiction recovery services.
We have a responsibility to support our elders, protect those who proudly served in our military, and care for the environment. She believes we need to invest in our infrastructure, look for technology-centered renewable energy, and fight for unique approaches to combat climate change.
Blackcloud states, " I believe the only way to make change is to be the change. That's why I'm running. Let's work together to flip HR72 and the entire Iowa House in 2020."
